Expedite using 2007 styles

Styles are great. Now you need to speed up using them. Right now I have to select the text I want to apply a style to, then click on the blue T, then scroll to the right one, then click it. Sounds easy. Try doing it 5 times a page for 10 pages. I had this experience when I wanted special terms in bold dark green. What I need is either a way to hot key them or have a constantly open list so I can select the text and then just click on the style I want.
