Creating a Journaling document from Lectora

I have a client who wants the learner to be able to open and keep ongoing notes in a journal. He wants a template opened the first time the learner clicks a button. That is easy. Then after the learner makes some notes, he wants the button to open the version the learner made notes in. Can anyone think of a way to do this without going to an exotic database? They are using an LMS to launch the course worldwide.
