Pasting diagrams from PowerPoint

When I try to paste a diagram composed of some boxes and lines from PowerPoint, Paste-as .wmf and .emf work fine. .gif => all the black lines are white??? (likely transparent) .jpg => all the blank space is black !!! How can I get around this?thanks,ben
