Capturing Hard Returns in Entry Field Variable

Okay -- I know this is a real long shot, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask...
I have a page in my e-course in which I ask the learner to think about a particular question and then type their thoughts in the entry field on the page. Then, on another page, I have a text box that displays the contents of the entry field's variable.
But here's the thing... If the learner types his thoughts as a list, pressing Enter after each item, when the variable contents are displayed in the text box later, the items are all run together with no line breaks or anything.
So, is there any way to tell Lectora to capture those hard returns in the variable contents, so it can redisplay exactly as the learner typed it?
Long shot, I know....
