modify variable in html external object

Can someone tell me how I should implement something like this?? Would be very grateful, as it is pretty frustating to be stuck at the very start of your javascript experience...I try to enter a very simple variant of the script above by RupertAb:I have created a variable in Lectora named Total. But this script doesn't seem to do a thing after I inserted it in Lectora as External HTML (tried to enter it as header scripting, top of line scripting and other). Is there a crucial step I didn't take for this to work? Do I have to give a separate command to run this function???thanks for your reply!Koen
