On Done issue

Hello

Has anyone noticed that, in Lectora16, the "On Done" action for media (audio actually) does not work unless the audio is represented by the controller? This also seems to hold when you select starting and ending points for a clip. As I remember it, this did not happen in Lectora 12. Any thoughts?

Hey Andrew @mlapl1 , would you be interested in working with our content team to write up a guest blog post? I think your survey and research would be a great point of discussion. If so send me an email at jennifer.valley@trivantis.com :)

Hi Wendy,

Thanks very much for your comment and solution. Yes I know about that problem and setting up the event would work in L16 (I guess). I just thought it might be interesting for the community that if I display the controller then it works and if I leave it, say, as the speaker icon, then it does not (the same seems true if I am controlling the clip through Javascript). My solution for the moment is to display the controller and then all seems ok (I can make it invisible if I want to or store it off-page).

Thanks again

Thanks Wendy. It is true that I ask for advice often and get ample support from the community, in particular a small group that seems to work well together. My needs are a bit different from most as I am involved in language-learning research and have been in the field for many years, though with different kinds of technology. Now systems like Lectora allow good front-end development (that takes care of the look of things and UI) and have enough built-in facilities and hooks into other languages/systems to make them really useful - but these things have to be developed - and I am not as familiar with them as I would like to be. I also like to do things myself: it gives me a better understanding of many things. I am glad you think that I am making a contribution and not just exploiting others (but I really have nowhere else to turn to and the people here really know their stuff).

On another note, I would welcome welcome discovering what others are doing in the area of language-learning/teaching. It may be possible to leverage off each other and do more interesting things together. If people want to know more about me, they can do so by going to http://gocultures.com/apl

Thanks again for your kind words. I am glad to have found Lectora: it has opened up lots of possibilities in all kinds of ways.

Btw, Andrew... You are a true soldier in trying to muscle through the challenges you are trying to meet with your development requirements. Even though you often come here looking for advice, we learn a lot from your experiences too in what you tell us those challenges are. Your participation helps us understand your needs better as a user and hopefully helps us guide our development to make a better product for everyone. Keep it coming. Your participation is greatly appreciated! :)

Hi Andrew,

I am remote on an iPad at the moment, so I can't test in v16 to see if this is still true or not. But it used to be that under certain circumstances that "On Done" actions would fail to fire when a media file was done playing. The workaround that I would use in these instances would be to set up an event in the audio or video file a few milliseconds before the file actually finished (assuming it's one you can edit) that would trigger the event I wanted. It always worked like a charm for me. Might work for you too if it's an editable media file. Hope this helps.

I have sent this thread to our development team. They have even less time than I or Jennie do to see what kinds of issues are being raised in the community than we do, unfortunately. ( For a major product, our dev team is probably much smaller than you would imagine! I'm always amazed at what they manage to do in the time given!) But I know they take customer issues very seriously, and will do all they can to resolve client issues in future releases as soon as possible. Thank you again for being an awesome voice for our users!

Thank you Wendy and Jennie. Jennie, I have just sent you an email.

Hi, Andrew. I added an auto-starting audio clip positioned in the center of the page then chose 'None(invisible)' in the display menu and the done playing action seems to work fine. Am I doing something different from what you are describing?

Hi Darrel

Yours certainly does work but I could not see what you did as there was no awt file. I will look again at that I did. This seems to be happening not only with On Done but also with the player when controlled by the JS that you and the team produced in another post (for controlling start and end points of a clip).

Cheers

Here's a report with the awt and ini.

Sorry, when it get's busy at work I can misplace my head. I'll repost with the awt tomorrow morning (730am EST). I'll also try to set start and stop times via JS. If I remember correctly there was something odd happening when you used the same player with multiple clips. It can be done but I think it needs to be handled in a different way than we initially had it set up. Until tomorrow.

Hmmm, here's the same thing with a speaker icon. You can remove the auto-start and it will still show the display message upon completion (click to start). Can you post something that is not working for you?

I did not, however, try anything using JS yet.

Thank you Darrel. The following is what I have found.

Audio = invisible + autostart - message appears

Audio = spkr icon + click - message does NOT appear

Audio - controller + click - message appears.

I had been trying to use the speaker icon. I believe the same happens when we try to control the player starting and ending points (I did not try the invisible setting) but the spkr did not work and the controller did.

Don't quite know what to make of it yet. I would like to be able to play by clicking the speaker icon, although it is no great hardship to create a button I guess and hiding the audio file.

BTW... When I do create a button, I get exactly the same outcomes as above.

cheers

Might be good to sent along the browser and/or other test conditions in which you test things Andrew. Allthough im not sure whether it makes a difference for Darrel when testing..
