Using a variable to show an image

Hey everyone.I am setting a course up that has chapter links down the left side. I am trying to have a checkbox show up next to the chapter name if it has been viewed.I created a check box and placed them in front of all the chapter names in the global level and set them all for NOT INITAILY VISIBLE.Each chaptr has a action that says: ON SHOW, Change Variable, Viewedchapter1 to 1. (The variable starts at 0.) I have that to have the logic when all chapters are one, Mark course as completed. (SCORM).I was trying to set it up so I could use the same variable, for example, Have some action that says: When "Viewed Chapter 1" is equal to 1, show "Checkbox chap 1.gif".I can't seem to find the right action to do something like this, even though it sounds so simple. If I Set an action on each chapter to show an image, it stops showing when I leave the chapter, even though the image is on the global level. The only way I can see to do this now is to put the "Show "Checkbox chap 1.gif" if "Viewed Chapter 1" is equal to 1" on every page of the course. SO that every page proces the check box for every viewed chapter. I know this is just a matter of making a variable for each chapter and copy and pasting in every chapter, but it just doens't seem like the logical way it should be done.
