What could cause Preview Mode to fail?

I am working on a project, but every time I click on the Preview Mode, the preview flashes briefly and then aborts immediately.
I've rebooted my machine, and I've verified that Preview Mode does work on other projects, so it clearly is this one that I'm working on. Is there a known issue that causes the preview to abort prematurely? I do have some sound files that Auto Start, but this happens on pages without sound, so I can rule that out.
