Ben, same for us. We put a background image at the title level and it still flashes. In fact, when going from page to page, most of the time every single element on the page flashes, i.e. click the Next button, and the screen goes completely white, then gradually the images return, one by one, and never in the same order. The background image might appear, then a few chapter buttons, then the next/back button, then a few more chapter buttons, etc. It's a true joy.
