Variables in Publish Strings?

Does anyone know if you can use variables in the Publish Strings, and if so, how it should be formatted?
When a user returns to a course in our LMS, I would like to change the bookmarking prompt from the default:
-"You have previously been in this lesson. Would you like to return to the last visited location in the lesson?"
to something like this:
"Welcome back (AICC_Student_Name). Would you like to return to the last page you visited in the course?"
Before I launch into a bunch of trial and error I just wanted to see if anyone has done something similar.
