The problem is because the browser does not continually update the page. It is created only once when the page is shown the first time and changed when you click something ON the page - not on some other page. To get them to talk to each other you need the technique described in my Tips and Tricks Tool kit available on LectoraExchange.org or you search for in in the Tips and Tricks forum. It shows a popup window affecting something in the launch window.
