Video Editor

I need help with the video editor.I can't seem to be able to select any portion of a clip. And for that matter I can find no way to do any copying or any editing of any useful kind. I can set a new beginning and end but that is it.I have done an extensive amount of video editing in Premier and Final Cut to mention just a couple of apps. And there is nothing about this app that I can find useful other than setting event markers.
