SCORM: exit title in AU

It's clear to me that I need one status-completed and a exit title inside each Au that I include in my course.
but why? what it 'says' to the LMS when executed? does it stop counting the time elapsed in the au? does it send any data/statistic to the lms? the documentation is not very clear about this when executed inside a SCORM course, I mean, when I get to a page that has this commad it doesn't 'exit the title' neither 'cloeses my secundary popup window', actually this last is how it's displayed the course in a separated popup window.
Exit Title/Close Window:
This action exits the title if it is executed from the main window presenting the title or closes the
current window if it is executed from a secondary or pop-up window.
