Custom image and button ALT option

Having the option to use an empty ALT tag on images and buttons is nice, and it’s good accessibility practice for non-essential graphics. However, I’d also find it useful if there was another way to define a custom ALT tag other than renaming your image or button.
For example, I sometimes have several buttons all named something like “Click to select this answer”. Telling them all apart then becomes difficult. Also, it’s not really feasible to use a descriptive ALT such as “Man safely using forklift in warehouse to unload delivery truck” without a better custom ALT option.
