Computer Hardware suggestions

We've been using what I thought to be a couple of fairly robust laptops for development work. I didn't go with a tower; our IT department tends to lean toward laptop purchases. But, over the past year, both of our laptops appear to be bogging down and Lectora seems 'squirrelly.' 'Squirrelly' meaning we publish a course and action A, B and C work without any issues the first test run; 2nd test run, Action A doesn't work, but B and C do; 3rd test run, there's no telling what we'll end up with... Although not all awt and published files are stored on these laptops, we've probably published 75+ courses on each of these laptops and they are both acting poorly. Is it possible that, at a certain point, there's too much residual junk left over from previous work that new titles might get gummed up?
Has anyone else run into the same type of issues and, if so, do you believe it's a laptop issue or simply too much Lectora for one computer? If you have suggestions on a desktop configuration or laptop maintenance/file cleanup that seems to work well, please advise. We've been using what I thought to be a couple of fairly robust laptops for development work.
