Two Pages, Walking Hand in Hand...

...is what I'm trying to achieve.
Here's what I need to do.
While displaying a content page that plays audio narration, the student clicks a button to display a separate page (sized as a pop-up) with the audio's corresponding text. The student can now listen to the narration audio and read along with the text.
So far, so good. I can display a single audio text page for a single content page, and remove it if it's not wanted.
Now here's where the problem starts. The student should also be able to open the audio text page for a content page, then click the Next (or Previous) button to navigate to the next (or previous) content page, AND have the displayed audio text page -automatically- change to display the appropriate audio text.
If I had the option of hard-coding everything, this wouldn't be -that- much of a problem. Unfortunately, what I'm putting together will be a library object that will be used by different designers in different situations, so I'm trying to keep specific, hard-coded references down to a minimum.
Right around now, it's really stinkin' to be me. Anyone out there have a way of making this mess (and me) smell like roses?
Thanks.
