Matching Question Issues - Completely not working

Ooops - my response posted itself before I was done!
As I started to say... As an experiment, try disinherting everything on the page except for the question object just to see if there's still some kind of background interference. If there is, then you'll have to decide whether to make a "plainer" page for that question, or use some other kind of question object. If it's not part of a graded test, you could also put the quiz question on a page that appears more as a pop-up, so it doesn't look so strange that it's different than the other pages.
