Completed Status Doesn't retain if return to course after completing

Does the LMS not have the previous record of completion in the course or user record? We have done this with many courses, set them up as required, then allow the user to return and view for information if needed. The first attempt was always saved in the LMS so the audit trail didn't get erased. Which LMS are you using?

However, if you go back into the course after having already completed it and jump to another page in the course through the table of contents and then leave, the status reverts to available. Any ideas what is happening? How can I get the completed status to stay if the student comes back to review a section of the course? I am publishing to AICC. Thanks
