Check Boxes - track document being read/accessed

Hi,
I'm creating a wbt and part of the wbt requires individuals to read a specific document in order for them to advance to the next section. After that section then a series of questions are asked...no problem with creating the questioning just I don't know how to create a function that will prevent the individual from moving to the questioning portion until the info is read/accessed. The document they are required to read contains critical safety information, therefore, it cannot be skipped. I've seen wbt's that would put a check mark next to the document name/link to indicate that the document was read/accessed. Any ideas on how I can do this?
