VB or Java

I'm looking into learning some programming language to help build custom features for our Lectora courses.I've heard Java or Visual Basic will do the trick, but haven't heard why one is better or worse then the other. Any suggestions out there why it would be better to learn Java or VB for developing in Lectora?
