Tracking where a user is in the course

One thing that I do to accomplish this is dis-inherit the original button and build another one for that page or section that is identical but just a different color using the button wizard. This does work in the HTML format because that is what I publish to in my programs.So for example if my normal button is blue, I change it to white for that page with the same functionality as the blue button, it is just a different color and the original button is just dis-inherited from the page.Hope that helps your issue.
