Tracking where a user is in the course

I built my own TOC with buttons that have 3 states: normal, clicked and mouseover. However, the clicked state doesn't "stay" and therefore, defeats the reason for making the graphics to begin with. All I need is a way to highlight the page that the user is currently on. I've tried LOTS of different actions and methods and nothing works. First, I tried using the "clicked" state button, but as previously mention, this state doesn't stay visible, instead, as soon as the user clicks the button and moves to the page, the "normal" state of the button displays. I tried adding actions to the buttons to hide the normal state button and show a separate image of the button in its clicked state coloring. This didn't work when I published in HTML. I then tried an "change contents" action. This works when I preview it, but not when published to HTML. It also will work if the user clicks the button TWICE in a row. But what user is going to click "page 1" twice?I also tried using text instead of buttons. I created two text boxes, lined them up one on top of the other and added a "toggle visibility state" action, which again did not work unless the user clicks the text box twice.Any ideas? Thanks! I'm using Lectora 2007.
