Social Media: getting senior execs to buy in

We know that Social Media or Social Networking (YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and the like) are going to be useful extensions to classroom and elearning.
Our current leadership is slightly aware of social media, but doesn't really know the features and benefits.
Have you been involved with educating Execs on what Social Media is, and why they ought to allow it on the desktop of the learner? If so, we'd like to hear your stories, tips and tricks, in any industry.
