Page size is same in old and new but showing bigger in Lectora 11
February 21, 2013 12:00 AM
I have a title published in Lectora vX6 with Page Size set at 785 width and 600 height.
I use it on an Ipad and the page fits nicely when published with X6.
When I open in V11 I check the width and height and they are set at 785 width and 600 height.
After publish in V11 and open it in my Ipad, the page size is much bigger (bigger than the Ipad screen)
Is there a setting or something else I may be missing? Do I need to resize all 87 titles?
Thoughts? Ideas??

Attached is an X version fitting in ipad and a 11 version not fitting.
I don't need the screenshots (I believe your word that you have a problem :)) but I need to compare old and new html to see why it behaves different.
Here is what Lectora suggested to me. I tried it, but unless I am doing something wrong it did not work for me. I have stopped using v11 because I have so many courses/chapters that I can't spend any more time troubleshooting. I'm sticking with X6 for now. If you try and it works I would love to hear about it!!!!
Your case was escalated up to me to review. It appears the issue you are experiencing with v11 is occurring because we added a viewport tag for each page and it is that tag that is causing it to appear differently on your iPad devices. Try adding an external HTML object at the title level or your title, type 'Top of File Scripting' with the following code added to it and it should resolve your issue. Let us know if you continue to experience issues.

I am inserting this in case it helps anyone:
Adding a HTML extension object
Perform the following steps to add a HTML extension object to your title. External HTML objects are only valid if you are publishing to the Web.
In the Title Explorer, select the location in which you want to add a HTML extension object.
2. From the Insert ribbon, click HTML Extension in the Add Web Object group.
A placeholder for the HTML extension object is added to the title. Select the placeholder window to size and move it as necessary. Use the controls on the Properties ribbon to make changes to the external object, such as changing the type of the HTML extension object, editing the code associated with the HTML extension, specifying additional files, and adding an action.

I did contact Trivantis support, and unfortunately, if you have older or existing projects in the 785 x 600 resolution, you'll either have to keep using Lectora X6, or change the resolution in Lectora 11 (which involves moving just about every object in the project). Hopefully you'll be able to get the external HTML object solution to work, stevehou--for me as a SCORM user, I'll probably go back to X6.
Lectora v11 added a lot of features specifically for mobile/tablet development. One of those was to automatically fill the screen with the content, while still accounting for screen rotation. This "feature" is what is affecting older titles built for 800x600 desktop screens when viewed on an iPad.
Lectora "prioritizes" page width when filling the screen on a tablet, so that a user will not have to scroll horizontally to view a page, which is not natural for a tablet interface. This works as intended, and you can see that in v11, the width of the content fills the width of the device. But, if the content used an aspect ratio (in this case 785x600) that has a greater height than the aspect ratio of the iPad, content will need to be scrolled vertically to see all of the page. This is fine if the page is designed to have lots of text or images that are supposed to be scrolled, but not if the content has bottom navigation that ends up appearing "hidden" because it is slightly scrolled off the page.
For a quick fix for your 785x600 titles, just set your title width to 915, leaving the height at 600, and re-publish. You should not have to move anything, and the title will not require scrolling on the iPad device (915x600 equates to the iPad screen resolution, accounting for tabs and other items at the top of the browser). The content will have a margin on the right, but will be completely visible on the screen.
Moving forward on new work, it would be a best practice to use the new Lectora defaults, which are built for tablets (the default size, which is 1009x662). They will give you more room to work with on your screen and have been optimized for both desktop and tablet viewing.
I was worried about iPad formatting after initially seeing this thread, but I have no problems with page size. That's weird that not everybody is experiencing this issue.
Hello,
I'm experiencing the same problem--my published Lectora X modules look fine on an iPad, but if I publish the same modules in Lectora 11, they're too large to fit the iPad screen.
Other than resizing and moving content for every page in every module, does anyone know of any other workarounds?
Thanks in advance,
JB
Thank you for the reply! I've got good news and bad news. I did get it to work by inserting the external HTML object/code as you suggested. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly), it only works when the project is published as HTML, but I need a workaround for my SCORM/iPad projects. I just contacted Support to see if they have any suggestions for SCORM users.
If you only need it for Web projects, hopefully you can get it to work. (I'm attaching a screen shot just in case it's helpful to you.) If you're a SCORM user, I'll report back to this thread if I hear anything from Support. Thanks again!
