Importing Power Point into Lectora
April 12, 2011 12:00 AM
Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to import Power Points into Lectora without having to get the integrator. I have been doing just a little casual research and it seems like everyone is using the Integrator for this... just thought I would post this and see what people have to say.
Thanks,

the theme has its own graphics that overlay anything you have in the background. In Lectora, expand the Theme Graphics group and try hiding parts that are getting in the way. You should have Show visibility check boxes in the Title Explorer option checked in Preferences in the General area. That way you can hide and show things on your page for editing purposes. Has nothing to do with how it looks when the course is run.
There is also the background image on the Design ribbon. Oh, which version of Lectora are you using, X or 11?
I've done everything correctly - started with a blank page - imported 1024 x 768. But when I try to apply a theme, part of the look is covered up by a white page that I simply can't get rid of. If I understand the themes correctly, they're just images. So I'm actually applying a background image to a Power Point. I've about decided to give up on that part and decided to create my own background although it would be nice to use one of the templates. The other option is to open my Power Point and have it minimized and simply copy the elements into new pages in Lectora. Am I missing something? I'm rather new - this is my second project - first one importing a Power Point.

I'm using 11.
Maybe this will help: We use PowerPoint for storyboarding and then export to an .awt via Snap! (though with version 11 you can just import using the import PowerPoint option). However, as you indicated, there can be a lot of formatting issues between what comes out of the PowerPoint (both methods appear to use the same code) and a Lectora template ...so here is what we do:
1) open a new file based on your template. this will be your actual project .awt.
2) create a separate .awt from your PowerPoint. this .awt file will serve as a source of content and assets.
3) Copy only the content you need from the PowerPoint into the project .awt, reformatting as needed.
Some properties, such as background image, may be specified at the title level in the template-based .awt, and at the page level in the PowerPoint based .awt. In the case of the background image, all of the PowerPoint pages will point to the same image file (e.g. image0005.jpg), so you can either manually remove this property on a page-by-page basis, or overwrite the offending image file with one that works for you, being sure to use the file name specified in the page's background image properties (i.e. image0005.jpg).
Hope this helps.
