Click and proceed without using buttons

Setting focus can be a tricky thing. Sadly, the current HTML setup is not all that seamless when it comes to Flash videos.
You could try a technique where you "trick" the learner into clicking outside of the video. For example, maybe you could have a little quiz in a sidebar that asks a question about the video. The learner cannot advance until the question is answered (mostly because the focus isn't on the HTML page). When the learner clicks on any of the answers, then focus is placed back on the page, and the keypresses are active again.
It's rather unfortunate, but that's an issue with web pages in general, I believe.
