Changing the font of page numbers

Here's what I do, which doesn't involve going into any of the actions. (I don't like using the word "page" either. Seems an unnecessary use of space since most people get what 1 of 12 means.) Once the text box appears on the page, I type an x and a space. I format both. Then I delete the x, being careful not to delete the space also. That seems to work. (NOTE: If I just type and format a space without the x, it doesn't work. I have to type a character with the space and then delete it in order for the formatting to stick.)
