Cannot get rid of unused Entry Field variables

I wonder if anyone has seen this type of glitch before and whether it can be fixed.
In the Variable Manager, under the Reserved Tab, I'm showing 3 variables: 'Entry_0002, Entry_0003 and Entry_0004'.
They don't show as being used anywhere within the template. They also don't appear under the unused tab.
All I can assume was at one point they were created for a form or question but when that object was removed, the variables, which should have been deleted along with the object, weren't. And now they are stuck there.
Does anyone know if these can be removed somehow?
