Can multiple developers work on one .awt

You are right. You could use the Resource Manager to do rename things. My questions would be how do you know WHICH ones to rename. When you paste in the new pages it will tell you there is a conflict on the first one. Then what? But you have already started the merge. I just have not come up with a good way to rename all the objects in one title BEFORE I merge (paste in) the other. How did you do it?And you are right, buttons are another source of potential problems.
