Video File Formats

Hi,
I have created my course using .flv files for my videos segments. However once I publish to html to check out the functionality and make sure everything works, my videos do not appear in the browser. The browser is equipped with flash player so I am not sure what the problem is. Would another video format be better?? If so which one. I have a converter with many options.
