Best Video File Types???

Hi,
I have created my couse with .flv files for my videos. However once I publish to html to check out the funtionality of the course and make sure everything works, my videos do not appear in the browser. The browser is equipped with flash player as well so I am not sure what the problem is. Would another video format be better?? If so which one. I have a converter with many options.
