submit result twice

We have a quiz that we submit the result to LMS when the result shows up. This way they can't exit and come back to take it again. This works fine until we have this special quiz. The result page has feedback and links to help a student understand the content. We'd like to track the time students spent on the page. We can put the time into a placeholder question answer and submit the result to LMS again, but this would generate a duplicates of record for a student. Is there a way to submit result a second time only on a identified variable instead of all the data (e.g. user answers, etc...)?
