Receive Alert When User Opens Class on a CD

I want to mail out some mini CD's to a select group of potential customers and want to receive an alert when the individual clicks to open a course sample.

Is this possible since it's on a portable device and not part of an LMS where the user has already logged in? And how would I know which customer opened the class? Do I make a form for them to fill out at the beginning and after submission - they are directed into the class?

If I understand you correctly, it is not possible. What I suggest is that you create a sample lesson for the mini disk and direct those who are interested to either an LMS or password protected site to deliver the main content.

Agree with both of the above posts.

If they are on an internet-connected computer, you could include a required survey submitted through Google forms; however, is your intent to not have these individuals know they are alerting you?

I personally wouldn't advise going with mini CDs at all. They are very dated and many computers these days do not even come with a CD drive. I'm not sure what you are selling but if it is anything to do with technology/websites etc then mini CDs are unlikely to send the right message about a forward-thinking, future-embracing company.

I agree with all of you and welcome all the suggestions. I don't care if they know or not - I just want a way to know that they didn't end up in the trash. I know CD's are not necessarily supported, but there is always someone in the office with a CD drive. I want to make the statement that we still support retro stuff but are moving them forward. I'm targeting a specific industry where the clients still want a paper bill, send a check for payment, and are still using a lot of older computers. (I don't want to insult them so not mentioning in this post). In other words, I want to tug them along with a teaser. I do like the idea of pointing them to the LMS - and will do that at the end of the short mini-class.

I'm planning on doing a really eye-catching mailer envelope as well. It's all about presentation and novelty. I get a ton of emails every day trying to sell me something. I hit delete, delete, delete. So I think it's time to think differently to catch someone's eye. It's worth a try.

You've all made great suggestions. Thank you so much.
