Thanks, I appreciate your response. I have considered the entry field idea where the student can define the value and I can immediately turn around and use it in the certificate. That option definitely hadn't been ruled out. Your secondary suggest is also interesting. Your saying that if the data format for the variable out the LMS disagrees with Lectora's expectations, the error could occur? Ultimately, I'm hoping to discover if this issue is SCORM-wide or limited to a number of LMSs.
