Launching .pdf document in new window

I'm looking for a suggestion to launch a .pdf document in a new tab or window. I am hyperlinking a document name to the 'Launch a Program/Document' action. The document, a .pdf file, opens in the same IE window as the course. In testing, users were closing the browser window when done with the document, thereby closing out of the test.
How else can I structure this to open in a new tab or window?
