Invisible Objects & Multiple Choice Questions with Internet Explorer

I have a module I've developed where the TOC is invisible, unless specifically requested, at which point it appears in the center of the page. I'm having issues in IE only where the pages display and shift parts of the visible screen up in the same shape as the TOC when it is visible, making it very hard (nigh impossible) to read. On the pages with multiple choice questions, you can click answers, reseting the page...but for text/image pages it is really a pain. Any ideas why?
