html publish - modify variable invalid

Hi, Im publishing to HTML and am getting the message "There is a Modify Variable action on this page with an invalid destination" 8 times on most pages - even on pages that have almost nothing in them. I have checked all the items and there are no 'on-click' modifiers and there are no actions that are incomplete. I had some guy work on this and am wondering if he hid the actions somewhere.
