Hotkeys for Selecting Answers

I am trying to provide easy access to visually impaired users. I would like to use hotkeys for selecting answers to multiple choice questions. For example alt-shift-A selects answer A. I cannot find an easy way of doing this. It seems that after changing the question answer variable to the appropriate value for the desired answer, the page needs to refresh. The only way to do this is to exit the page and then do an immediate return. This takes a considerable amount of time. It seems that what is missing is the ability to refresh the controls on the page. Has anyone tried to do this?I am trying to provide easy access to visually impaired users.
