I haven't been able to get it to work like that. To work around it I've been embedding my flash files as external html objects using the swfobject (http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/)javascript embed. That way I can reference the trivantis variables via javascript and pass them into the flash. That may be more than you want to deal with, but if you want an example let me know.
