Firefox, Cookies - and Death of Testing Locally on IE?
July 22, 2015 12:00 AM
Hi all,
Apologies in advance, I think I am old and grouchy :) I cannot figure out how to adequately clear my temp files in Firefox to be able to test my HTML output locally. I am not sure if this is a browser configuration thing within my Enterprise (we have some interesting stuff going on with that) - OR - if the days of being able to test locally are just over? Meaning I must load these files to the web server first?
I believe I read somewhere that the answer to this question is Yes for Microsoft IE (at least for us). I thought maybe Firefox was a saving grace :) (not totally sure Lectora 11 is supported on Firefox... but that's another story!)
I would appreciate any knowledge so I can stop trying to do the impossible :)
I usually don't use Preview / Run mode because I've had undesirable results... I don't mind testing on a web server (in fact that's something I always do) - just a pain for debugging (especially if you can't figure out how to totally clear Firefox cache! - I am using standard instructions and even deleting system temp files which is making me think that's why it can't be done - the only thing I haven't tried yet is CLOSING Lectora altogether... that sometimes works... oddly...)
Thanks in advance!

Browsers DO behave differently (and often odd) when viewing local content. Not only cookies and cache are problematic, even certain JavaScript commands and network requests can't run properly, making a total mess of your course. So I recommend to just forget about local testing and do it on a server. It'll save you a lot of nerve.
Interestingly enough, the server doesn't have to be on web, or even on a network. Just install your local HTTP server on Windows, point it to a local folder and voila, you can now direct your browser to your local folder and it'll treat it as online in terms of cache, security, etc.
The best part is you can point the server to your TEMP folder on Windows and access the files that Lectora generates for quick in-browser preview.
