Custom result pages layout lives its own life...

Hi all,
Does anyone uses the custom result pages feature in your tests? I was wondering if you come across this thing also:
Every time I create a custom results page it is impossible to directly apply actions in it. To add an action to the result page, I have to create it on another page first and then drag it into the custom results page.
Then the second thing happens. When I customize my custom result page by adding a header image, the same thing happens. I need to create it on another page first and then drag it onto the custom page.
Somehow I can live with this, but the worst thing is yet to come.
Once published the layout of this page is as messed up as can be. Although I have never specified to create a huge whitespace between each question, the course thinks it should.
The weirdest thing is that if I juggle with some of the "extra" content within the custom page, it will publish correctly. However I did not manage to find a consistent way of using the "extra" content in the custom results page, which will always result in the correct layout when published.
Is this a problem only I experience, or did you come across this issue too? If so, please let me know how to fix it... And if you did not fix it, let's work something out...
Cheers,
