Code to Remove Browser X?

I agree with the PEBCAK comment. It's a matter of education.
You may need to mention ahead of time to NOT CLICK ON THE X, NO MATTER HOW SHINY IT LOOKS. DO NOT TOUCH!
Despite such a warning message, someone will click it.
So, you just need to arrange it so that the X is not attractive. Not placing UI elements in the top 10% is a pretty good suggestion.
I would also suggest passing the COMPLETED variable earlier than expected. I don't know your course, so I don't know how feasible this is, but if you have a summary section, then pass the COMPLETED variable when the learner reaches the first summary page. That way, when the learner gets to the end, it doesn't matter if he clicks EXIT or the X, because the variable is already passed.
You can't stop them from clicking on it, but you can make it easier on yourself.
