Can we use abbr tags?

All,
I have had a hunt around the docs and the tool bars but I cannot see a way to add a html native abbreviation. ie have the following construction in the exported HTML:
The new rocket was announced by NASA earlier to day
Is the functionality available?

You can add a hyperlink to a word in the text block. Then you can select what action happens when the link is clicked. You can use it to toggle (show/hide) a little popup with the full unabbreviated text.
You can insert HTML objects - on the Insert ribbon in the Add Web Object area. Would that do it?
I am not familiar with that standard. What specifically would be the problem with show/hide? Then I have a shot at it.
Is that similar to 508 compliant?
Thank you both.
Both good solutions, though I think the hyperlink would be better as it keeps everything in the same text object and removes the chance that the text will wrap differently on different displays/zoom levels.
One follow on question though. As we are bound by legislation to create WCAG2.0 Level AA compliant content we have been avoiding Show/Hide as the Information Centre document's WCAG section describes them as not accessible (and hence my interest in a standard tag like ). Is there a way around the accessibility issues with Show/Hide functions?
Regards,
Mike
