Avatar Experience. Thoughts, Attitudes?

I like the idea of having the boss-phoning-in feedback (and other scenario-based approaches), but you can also do stuff like that in a text-based approach. It's not that I dislike avatars and, if your content is *extremely* stable, then it may be the most engaging way to go. However, I usually try to avoid using spoken audio for the simple reason that, if the person who originally did the voice-overs leaves the company at some point, and then, later, you have to make a revision to the course, you can end up really being screwed and having to rerecord the entire thing. So, I usually discourage the use of any kind of narrative audio in our Lectora e-courses and have used text-based ways of doing scenario-based stuff instead. Not using audio also has the benefit of eliminating possible additional work for our instructors, like not having to run around and scrounge up headphones for the learners (since much of the e-learning is actually done in the classroom during new-hire training) or having to deal with other audio-related computer problems. However, if I had a course that really had a need for audio, then I could definitely see that including an avatar could raise the fun factor a bit or be a more dynamic way of presenting the audio. In any event, I definitely want to look into CrazyTalk -- for $50, it might be worth having in my "back pocket," so to speak.Just my $.02...Laura
