Anyone know how to make a graphic/picture fade in or out?

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone know how to make a picture fade in or fade out? I'm sure theres a way to do it but for the life of can't figure it out. I tried to search here for like "fade picture" "fade graphic" but no results are brought back. I'm sure I'm not the first person wanting to do this.
