xAPI and Video Tracking
February 2, 2017 12:00 AM
I'm new to xAPI in Lectora and have just started playing around with statements. In regards to an embedded video on a slide, how can you report when/where in a video a user stops/starts a video? For a video, actors are "on show," and "done playing," but how can I report other in depth details of how the user watches the video? Would this all be custom programming? I know I can remove the controller and add buttons for play/stop and pause and add statements to that, but then a user couldn't fast forward or rewind. I guess I'm trying to figure out the best way to track interactions with a video and what others have done. Any help is greatly appreciated. I haven't found much on the web about this within Lectora.

I attended this session at LUC 2017 that discussed inserting a quiz on the page and then using the test properties to tie the answer choices to the length of time a video was viewed.
It looked cool - but unfortunately I've not tried it since returning from the conference as I've been bogged down in project work!!!
There is a very basic recap of that session on the Trivantis blog: https://www.trivantis.com/blog/luc-2017-recap-using-lectora-google-docs-simulate-xapi/
Hope that gives some tips to play around with.
Thanks for the suggestion, Elizabeth. I ended up adding events to the video and then setting xAPI statements on those events. Of course this would not work if you are streaming a video with vimeo or yourtube...
Late to the party, but won't adding events to the video convert the published video from MP4 to FLV? I'm trying to find a similar solution that's a little easier than the one found here: https://www.learningsolutionsmag.com/articles/2375/track-video-interactions-with-xapi-statements
