Unable to get courses to show Complete

With all of the various LMS's out there I've often thought of writing a script to continue to submit the varying values that different LMS's need to mark a learner complete.Doesn't seem that difficult to do actually, unless I'm missing something, just submit a value, check to see what the returned value is (or the status of the learner), and if it isn't what was expected try the next value. That way one wouldn't have to "know" exactly the value that was required by their LMS.
