Turn off Mastery Score

One common request I get from customers is to allow a learner to take the test until they pass so all failures should get an incomplete status. With a mastery score, a failed test grade produces a failed status and the course moves to transcript.Similary, they might want to give the user X number of attempts to pass before providing a failed status. Again, with a mastery score, the status is automatically tied to the pass/fail grade of the test on the first attempt.If there is a way of doing this without removing the mastery score, I'm open to suggestions ...
