Trying to decide

There's a definite place for both tools, but not usually within the same company. Here's my take.

If you have a very short time to get up and running with a course, you can get farther with Articulate. But if you have more time to devote, you can get much farther in terms of customized features and functions with Lectora than you ever can with Articulate.

If you need to get several people up to speed on the authoring software, including SMEs or people who aren't likely to use it often, will probably do better with Articulate.

I use both for my clients -- Lectora when they want a more robust course, and Articulate when they need something fast and cheap. Also, if you like the template-based Articulate Engage interactions, you can put them in your Lectora course.

If you'd like some guidance in trying to figure out what features and functions are important to you in an authoring tool, you can go to my website where there is a chapter you can download about authoring tools. It includes a checklist of authoring tool features you can use to decide what you want and then keep track of what tools do which. http://www.e-learninguncovered.com/books.html Click the link under the first book to download the chapter.
