Text obj contents to a variable

I'm sure this has been asked before, but the forum search seems to be messed up since moving to Lectora Lounge, so I'll ask anyway. I need to be able to set the value of a variable to the contents of a text object. For example if I have a text object with the text "Course Introduction" and I want to set the value of a variable to "Course Introduction" how would I go about doing this in Lectora? Is this possible?
Anyone know when Trivantis is going to fix the forum search so your search string doesn't reset when you move off of page 1 to next page or some other search results page?
